Lancaster is on the brink of an exciting transformation with the proposed electric vehicle (EV) hub at the Auction Mart car park. This initiative, backed by Lancaster City Council, promises to revolutionise the way residents and taxi drivers access affordable and sustainable energy.
The proposed EV hub is part of a broader government-backed plan to extend electric car ownership and reduce emissions. The hub will offer significantly cheaper energy prices than commercial EV hubs, especially during periods of high solar power generation. This is a win-win for the environment and the pocket!
Councillor Martin Bottoms highlighted a crucial point: nearly 45% of Lancaster’s residents lack private spaces to charge their vehicles. This hub aims to bridge that gap, offering a reduced tariff and app for local residents and taxi drivers. Visitors and other users will benefit from a straightforward contactless payment system.
The proposed tariffs are impressively competitive. Eligible local residents will enjoy rates of 35p, 40p, and 65p for 7kW, 22kW, and 43-75kW charge points, respectively. This is a significant reduction from the average commercial rates. Additionally, a solar saver fee will further reduce costs during high solar generation periods.
Lancaster City Council’s comprehensive approach ensures that EV charging remains affordable while promoting a fair transition to electric vehicles. This initiative not only supports the local economy but also aligns with global sustainability goals.
As the council continues consultations and planning applications, the community eagerly anticipates the positive impact this hub will have. At Lancastrian Estates, we’re thrilled to see such forward-thinking initiatives that enhance Lancaster’s appeal as a vibrant, sustainable place to live.
