At Lancastrian Estates, we’re proud to share inspiring stories from our local community, and few are more remarkable than that of Lancaster’s own Shaun Gash. Recently appointed MBE in the King’s New Year Honours list, Shaun’s journey from a life-altering car accident to becoming an extraordinary adventurer exemplifies the resilient spirit of our city.
Thirty-three years ago, following a devastating crash that left him paralysed with multiple severe injuries, doctors gave Shaun just two days to live. However, fate had different plans. During his rehabilitation, he met his future wife Dawn, marking the beginning of an incredible partnership that would go on to inspire countless others.
What truly sets Shaun apart is his unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries and supporting others. From scaling Mount Kilimanjaro to making history as part of the first disabled duo to scuba dive to a depth of 40 metres, his achievements continue to challenge perceptions of what’s possible. His dedication to charitable causes and mentoring others facing similar challenges has created a lasting impact on our local community.
As property experts deeply connected to the Lancaster community, we understand the importance of accessibility and inclusion in housing. Shaun’s story reminds us that homes, like lives, can be adapted to accommodate changing circumstances and new beginnings.
The father-of-three’s modest response to receiving his MBE – questioning “What have I done?” – speaks volumes about his humility. Yet his contributions to charity and disabled people’s causes have been nothing short of extraordinary. Through educational initiatives and fundraising events, including comedy nights and ambitious climbing attempts, Shaun has demonstrated that limitations exist only in our minds.
We join the Lancaster community in celebrating this well-deserved recognition of a truly inspirational local hero.
