Lancaster Choir Triumphs in Prestigious Competition

Lancaster Millennium Choir has hit a high note, clinching the top prize at the Lancashire Choir of the Year 2025 finals. The competition, held at Lancaster University, showcased the finest vocal talent across the region, with performances that left audiences spellbound.

The Lancaster Millennium Choir, comprising over 30 talented choristers, set the stage alight with their classic rendition of “Locus Iste.” Their harmonious blend of voices captured the essence of traditional choral music, earning them rapturous applause and the coveted title of Lancashire Choir of the Year 2025. Their performance of “For Every Child” further demonstrated their versatility, with high female ranges and deep male tones creating a captivating auditory experience.

The finals also featured the youthful energy of the Basics Vocalize Choir, who brought a modern twist to classics with “Pure Imagination” and a lively cover of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer.” Meanwhile, the Blackpool Male Voice Choir delivered a powerful performance with “Bui Doi” and “The Glory Train,” showcasing their traditional-meets-modern style.

The Lancaster Musical Theatre Choir, known for supporting mental health and building confidence, enchanted the audience with a medley from “Wicked” and the lively “You’ll Be Back.” Their performance was a testament to the choir’s commitment to both musical excellence and community well-being.

The evening’s largest ensemble, the St John’s Hospice Choir, impressed with their fundraising achievements and moving renditions of “Sunrise, Sunset” and “Let the River Run.” Their efforts were recognised with the People’s Choice Award, voted by the public.

The Capricorn Singers, a vibrant ladies’ choir, added a splash of fun with “It’s Raining Men,” earning them third place. The competition concluded with the Lancaster Millennium Choir receiving a professional recording session, while the runners-up and People’s Choice winners were offered vocal workshops.
