Did you know? – Happy Mount Park

Happy Mount Park is a public park located in Morecambe. It was originally opened in 1926 as a private venture by the entrepreneur and showman, Mr. Harold Ainsworth. Ainsworth wanted to create a family-friendly attraction that would rival the seaside resorts of Blackpool and Southport.

The park was designed to be a fun and entertaining space for all ages, with a wide range of attractions including a boating lake, miniature railway, gardens, and a large children’s playground. It also had a number of cafes and restaurants, as well as facilities for sports such as tennis and bowling.

During the 1930s, the park became a popular destination for holidaymakers from across the country, and it continued to thrive throughout the 1940s and 1950s. However, by the 1960s, changing holiday trends and the rise of package holidays abroad meant that the park’s popularity began to decline.

The park was taken over by the local council In the 1970s, who invested in a major refurbishment program to restore the park to its former glory.

In 1994, Happy Mount Park introduced a new attraction called “Blobbyland,” which was based on the popular British television character Mr. Blobby. Mr. Blobby was a pink, polka-dotted character who had become a national sensation in the early 1990s, thanks to his appearances on the television show “Noel’s House Party,” which was hosted by the comedian and television personality Noel Edmonds.

The Blobbyland attraction at Happy Mount Park was a theme park based on the Mr. Blobby character, featuring a range of rides and attractions aimed at children and families. It included a “Blobby Castle,” a “Blobby Maze,” a “Blobby Ride,” and a “Blobby Train,” among other attractions. The park was an immediate hit with visitors and was particularly popular with young children.

However, this popularity didn’t last long, and after just 13-weeks, the local council voted to scrap the theme park and it was closed.

The Splash Park at Happy Mount Park was introduced in 2008 and quickly became a popular attraction for families during the summer months. The Splash Park features a range of water features such as fountains, sprays, and jets, as well as a paddling pool for young children. It provides a fun and safe environment for children to cool off and play in the water.

There are several other things that visitors to Happy Mount Park may be interested to know about. Here are a few:
