Carter’s of Torrisholme, a beloved Morecambe bakery, is basking in the glory of a prestigious accolade. Recently crowned Best Bakery of the Year at the UK Small Business Awards, this local gem is proving that passion and dedication can indeed lead to sweet success.
In addition to this national recognition, Carter’s also clinched the Cake Bakery of the Year title in Lancashire at the 2025/26 Manchester and North West Prestige Awards. Owner Alana Carter-Greef expressed her joy on Instagram, sharing her excitement and pride in the achievement. Her heartfelt message highlighted the camaraderie among fellow finalists, celebrating the hardworking spirit of small businesses.
Carter’s Cakes began its journey in 2018, when Alana Louise Carter (now Carter-Greef) transformed her home bakery in Overton into a thriving enterprise. By 2019, the bakery had found a home on Meeting House Lane in Lancaster, specialising in bespoke celebration cakes. The pandemic in 2020 prompted a pivot to takeaway offerings, introducing delectable treats like brownies, blondies, and flapjacks, which were hand-delivered to eager customers.
The business has flourished since then, with Alana’s mother joining the team in 2022 to support production. Their pop-up shops at Morecambe’s Festival Market were a resounding success, leading to the expansion into a larger premises on Lancaster Road in Torrisholme. Today, a dedicated six-person team brings Alana’s dessert dreams to life.
Alana’s passion for baking traces back to her early teens, inspired by her late grandmother Judy. Now, she shares her creations with a growing community of delighted customers. At Lancastrian Estates, we celebrate local success stories like Carter’s, which enrich our vibrant Morecambe community.
