Lancashire’s secondary schools have once again proven their academic prowess, with impressive results in the 2024 GCSE English and maths exams. The Department for Education (DfE) has released performance data showcasing the top 15 schools in the county, highlighting the percentage of pupils achieving a grade 5 or above in these core subjects.

At the pinnacle of this achievement is Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, with an outstanding 97.3% of students attaining a grade 5 or higher. Close on its heels, Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School boasts a 96.6% success rate, followed by Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School at 95.1%. These schools have set a high bar, reflecting the dedication of both students and educators in the region.

Lancaster Royal Grammar School also shines brightly with 94.8% of pupils achieving top grades, while Saint Michael’s Church of England High School impresses with a 92.4% pass rate. These figures underscore the importance of English and maths as foundational subjects, pivotal for students’ future opportunities.

The DfE’s focus on these subjects is evident, as they contribute significantly to each school’s Progress 8 score, a key performance benchmark. Schools like St George’s School A Church of England Academy and Preston Muslim Girls High School, with 82.9% and 75.2% respectively, demonstrate the breadth of academic excellence across Lancashire.

These results are not just numbers; they represent the hard work and commitment of students and teachers alike.
