Celebrate Local Food at FoodFriends Feast

Share article

Lancaster residents, prepare your taste buds for a delightful evening! The annual FoodFriends Feast is just around the corner, and it’s a celebration you won’t want to miss. Scheduled for Thursday, January 29, this community gathering is a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the impact of local food projects in Lancaster.

Organised by a dedicated team of local food growers, the feast aims to bring the community together to acknowledge the significant contributions made by FoodFriends members. These efforts support nature-friendly, organic food production across North Lancashire. FoodFriends, a registered small-society lottery managed by LESS (Lancaster District) CIC, not only offers monthly prizes to its members but also raises essential funds for local food-growing initiatives.

Since its inception in 2020, FoodFriends has been instrumental in supporting two key growing sites, collectively known as The Plot. These include an outdoor site on an organic farm and an indoor growing space on the White Lund estate in Morecambe. Together, they form the FarmStart training centre, nurturing a new cohort of aspiring growers each year since January 2021.

With the recent acquisition of Summerhouse Community Farm, The Plot is set to relocate, becoming part of a new, community-led vision for food production. The upcoming feast will provide attendees with insights into these exciting future plans while celebrating past achievements.

Currently, around 150 people are part of FoodFriends, and LESS CIC aims to recruit 350 new members to ensure the long-term financial stability of The Plot. The feast will be held at The Friends Meeting House on Meeting House Lane, Lancaster, starting at 6.15pm. While tickets are free, spaces are limited and must be reserved in advance. Donations on the night are appreciated to help cover the meal’s cost.
